12. Can my customer get tax-free shopping from my e-commerce site?

Yes.

Customers who reside outside the EU can place an order on my website even before they arrive in the EU. Their purchases can be delivered to an address in France, Belgium or Spain, to a friend’s house, a pickup point, or their place of stay.

When they collect their items during their trip, they can use Zapptax to claim the VAT refund, as long as the goods are carried back in their personal luggage when leaving the EU.

🔎 Most e-commerce platforms let the customer specify a different billing and shipping address.

The customer should enter Zapptax’s name and address as the billing details. Once the order is shipped, the invoice is either sent by email or made available on the website. The customer simply uploads this invoice in the Zapptax app to generate their tax-free form.

Zapptax provides a digital partner kit with logos and ready-to-use text (in French and English) to integrate on my e-commerce website.

Important: If the delivery address is in a different country than where your site is registered (e.g. a French-registered site delivering to Belgium), the VAT rate must match the destination country.

There are two scenarios:

  • Your website is also registered in the delivery country: the invoice must include your local VAT number and VAT rate.

  • You are registered under the EU One-Stop Shop (OSS): the invoice should reflect the VAT rate of the delivery country.

VAT rules for cross-border deliveries

If I ship to a country different from where my business is registered (e.g. French site, but delivery in Belgium), the VAT rate must match the delivery country. Two possible cases:

  • My business is also registered in the destination country: I apply the local VAT rate and include my local VAT number on the invoice

  • I use the EU VAT One-Stop Shop (OSS): I apply the destination country’s VAT rate, without needing a local VAT number

Any doubts?
