The tax-free shopping process with Zapptax is fast and effortless.
It’s based on three simple steps my international customer completes:
Download the free Zapptax app.
Upload photos of the Zapptax invoices they receive for their purchases.
Validate their tax-free form at a electronic kiosk (PABLO) or with a customs officer.
Here’s how it works in detail:
Step 1: customer downloads the app.
They download the Zapptax app for free on their smartphone, create an account, fill in their travel details, and they’re ready to go.
Step 2: I issue an invoice in the name of Zapptax for the customer’s purchase.
They simply take a photo of the invoice and upload it via the app.
Here’s the billing address to include, depending on the country of purchase:
🇫🇷 In France
Zapptax
23 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau
75001 PARIS
SIRET: 830.041.844.00028 (sometimes requested)
🇧🇪 In Belgium
Zapptax
Rue du Boulet, 42
1000 BRUXELLES
VAT number (mandatory): 0670 776 774
🇪🇸 In Spain
Zapptax
Bravo Murillo, 52 1-3
28003 MADRID
VAT number (mandatory): N0173919B
A printed receipt with Zapptax mentioned on it can also be accepted as a valid invoice.
Customers can continue using the app in other stores as long as each time, they request a receipt or invoice made out to Zapptax.
Step 3: Customer generates and validates their tax-free form.
In France and Spain, these forms include a barcode and are available both in the app and by email.
Before boarding or crossing a land border, the customer scans the barcode directly from their phone at an electronic customs kiosk (called PABLO in France, DIVA in Spain).
Alternatively, they can present the barcode to a customs officer for manual or scanner-based validation.
🔎 Everything happens within the app, no need to print any documents.
Minimum spend thresholds per country:
France: total purchases must exceed €100 (across the entire trip, from one or multiple stores)
Belgium: total purchases must exceed €125
Spain: no minimum amount required
🔎 Once the form is validated, Zapptax is instantly notified by customs and handles the VAT refund directly to the customer's chosen payment method (bank transfer, credit card, PayPal, etc.).
